When you buy an adjustable bed, it's a good idea to find out how the platform (or bed base) that raises the mattress up & down is made. A well made adjustable base should last at least 10 years trouble-free. At Elite, we have bases out there from the early 80's that are still performing wonderfully!
Our beds are over-engineered
What makes our base so solid? In short, we do our best to manufacture the bed with components good enough so that we can honestly say the bed is over-engineered.
We start with a steel frame that is welded instead of bolting or riveting the joints. Welds are stronger than bolts or rivets. This very strong steel frame is in turn bolted to a plywood platform. Plywood is better than the particle board used in most other adjustable beds. It doesn't crack as easily as particle board. And have you ever seen particle board after it gets a little wet? It swells up like a sponge and comes apart easily afterward.
The four boards of our platform are in turn joined together with hinges. The heavy steel hinges between the boards keep the platform in line for the life of the bed. When the boards are only bolted to the steel frame below and they aren't hinged together, they can bend the steel frame pieces slightly and the bed gets to be like a wobbly recliner over time.
Heavy Duty Electrical Components
The solid frame is one big reason our beds last so long. Another is the quality of our electrical components. The lift motors used in our beds are overpowered for the application. We use solid powerful massage motors, all the electrical components unplug easily from the junction box…And did we mention our hand control is made of the toughest plastic for any bed made in the USA?
Maybe our wired hand wand isn't the sexiest little number out there, but then again, it will outlast all wireless wands, hands down. Another advantage to our wired wand is that we make it ourselves. You can always get a replacement from us. If a customer calls us with a need for a wand for a bed purchased in 1990 or even 1980, we can replace it. There aren't any makers of wireless bases who can say that.
