Lots of stores like to advertise a mattress & foundation for this price, but very few actually have them in stock. Why don't they have it when you ask to see it? Normally, it's because they're afraid to sell it. They may know it's made so poorly the customer will often complain after a week of trying to sleep on it. What we normally see is a mattress made with a spring that just about goes flat when you sit on it. And if you push down on the top, you can feel springs through a cheap thin layer of upholstery. A fair amount of the time, very inexpensive mattresses are just a slab of urethane foam.
Just like the rest of our mattress line, we always have the Firm Elite on display. And we're proud we can offer so much for so little money.
The Firm Elite starts with a 312 coil, 13 gauge spring unit. For the upholstery, we start with a very heavy polyfiber insulator pad. The next layer is 1/2" firm grade foam. Our cover is a smooth top polyester fabric.
The foundation for the Firm Elite is another solid value. Most foundations out there are made with thin metal rods and thin slats of pine. They don't weigh very much. Heavy people and rambunctious kids bend them on a regular basis. The Elite foundation is made from a hardwood – Poplar. It's grown in Missouri and Southern Illinois. And the slats we use are much thicker than the typical ones found in other foundations. Yes, this foundation is a bit heavier when you have to move it, but it's also a lot less likely to be broken. The foundation is topped with a non-skid decking cloth and the border on the sides matches the Firm Elite mattress fabric.
